Chikkalthana Airport in Aurangabad is a small airport mainly catering to domestic travelers.  It is a public airport where an international terminal is also there. The new terminal was opened to the public in 2008. The airport now mainly connects travelers to the nearest international airports like Pune, Mumbai and Hyderabad.

Aurangabad is a tourist hub because of the world heritage sites, Ajanta and Ellora caves. A lot of tourists, national as well as international, visit this place annually. Many war planes are believed to have stopped at this airport for refueling. Chikalthana now can now accommodate a few more aircraft’s after the completion of the second phase. Chartered flights take off from the airport. Apart from the chartered flights, there are seven aircraft that take off daily from Chikalthana Airport.

This airport is at an elevation of 582 m and the runway length is 2351 m. The airport though small compared to many other airports in the country, has all the modern facilities that make it convenient for the tourists.  The terminal has all the features that is found in other airports across the country. Most of the airlines, Jet Airway, Indian Airlines, Air India etc. have regular flights from Aurangabad daily.
