Jamnagar Airport or Govardhanpur Airport as it is formally known, is situated around 10 km from the main city of Jamnagar in Gujarat, India. The airport is owned by Air Force India and allows both commercial and private flights to operate, however it is used primarily for military purposes.
The Jaguar squadron located in Jamnagar received the award for the best squadron by Air Chief Marshal with the Jamnagar base getting the ‘Best Flying Station’ award for the year 2006. The Govardhanpur Airport enjoys the distinction of being the only airport in Gujarat with two runways.
The IATA code of Jamnagar Airport is JGA while its ICAO code is VAJM. The Jamnagar airport terminal is spread across 35 acres and with a 295 ft by 295 ft parking apron adjoining the terminal, the airport can handle an Airbus 320 and ATR 72 at the same time.

The construction of the airport is quite basic with only the basic amenities like Baggage services and duty free shopping available. Given the airport does not boast of a big terminal, it can only accommodate up to 75 passengers at a time.
The Jamnagar airport has very limited domestic flights and that too only to the country’s financial capital namely Mumbai. With the airport used majorly to oversee military operations and given they have the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport nearby in the city of Ahmadabad, it is unlikely that the Jamnagar Airport will see any drastic improvement as far as air traffic is concerned in the near future.
